40s Style Glasses

It was the classic era of the war time pin-up, where glasses became synonymous with glamour and the introduction of plastic frames saw spectacles become part of people’s style. Browline styles of reading glasses dominated as did small round frames, usually in metal or lighter plastic colours. These looked great with set hair, in either a page boy style or Hollywood waves and a high pinned back fringe like Lana Turner. It was also the age of film noir, where Barbara Stanwyck made a pair of sunglasses look so stylish. To get the authentic 1940s look, pair your spectacles with some victory rolls, a dress with strong shoulders or a trouser suit.
