Peepers Profile: Jessica Holly

For as long as I can remember, Jessica has been visible on the vintage scene with her distinctive 50s sweater girl aesthetic. A regular at vintage events and modelling for many repro fashion brands’ social channels, we caught up to learn more about her style inspirations…

How did you initially get into the vintage scene? I first discovered Buddy Holly (I know many people first found Elvis), then musically, it spiralled from there. I then started researching 1950s fashion; it was the first time I had worn a dress since I was a little girl. Finally, I felt like I had found the missing piece to my puzzle!

Which vintage events do you enjoy the most? The Rockabilly Rave each June was the first weekender I attended on ‘the scene’ back in 2013, and I've been hooked ever since. It was wonderful returning in June this year. The Rockin’ Race Jamboree held in Malaga every February is a favourite of mine too. It has a great atmosphere, fantastic bands and you can’t go wrong being in such a beautiful place that time of year! I’m also really looking forward to The Rhythm Riot in October. It makes me so happy that these events can start up again now and we can continue to support them.

What is your favourite vintage style or era? The 1950’s. My all-time favourite look is the ‘1950’s bad girl’ look. I like the early 60s and late 40s style, but early to mid 50s is the style I have always magnetised to since I discovered all of this.

Do you have any vintage role models? Mae West.

What is your favourite vintage piece? I have a batwing cardigan that I bought from a vintage shop here in Bristol when I first discovered more vintage style and the 50’s look. It’s wool and has pretty beads on the front of it. It was the very first piece of vintage I bought.

What is your favourite glasses style/shape? It definitely has to be a cat-eye. I live in my black Peggy glasses from Retropeepers, they are perfect!
