We have been hard at work to re-create a truly exceptional pair of vintage sunglasses, once owned by the iconic female Mexican artist FRIDA KAHLO.

Frida KahloThe launch of these new frames is timed to coincide with London’s Victoria and Albert Museum’s much anticipated exhibition: 'Frida Kahlo - Making Her Self Up' in June this year. The exhibition unveils her wardrobe and accessories and includes the original pair of Frida’s stunning, matt gold sunglasses.

These large, classic, mid-20th Century, cat-eye frames, make an uncompromising, bold and stylish statement. Hand made from high quality acetate and officially licensed from the Frida Kahlo Corporation, they are being produced as a limited edition of 500 pieces. Not just a pair of very wearable sunnies, but also a collectible piece of contemporary art.

Each pair will come with a floral folding case inspired by the artist’s work and Mexican heritage (choose from the Fuchsia or Marigold designs), a matching polishing cloth, together with an individually numbered certificate. These cases can also be bought separately.

FRIDA KAHLO DE RIVERA (1907-1954) was a Mexican artist who painted many portraits, self-portraits, and works inspired by the nature and artefacts of Mexico. She employed a naïve folk-art style to explore questions of identity, post-colonialism, gender, class, and race in Mexican society. Frida is celebrated in around the world for her depiction of the female experience and form as well as her love of nature.
